Illustrations

I'll just call these illustrations for the time being since I can't think of a better title.   They usually take much longer than a sketch, and I would like to think of them as 'finished' drawings. Yet, they aren't pretentious enough to be called fine art, and they remain mysteriously unpublished.

Maybe I should come up with a more appropriate category, but the truth is, I like to consider myself an amateur illustrator. An illustrator is the same as a fine artist in many ways, but they are usually trying to communicate a particular message or representation of an idea. How many fine artists can you say that for these days? One of the main reasons I hate high art is because it avoids communicating anything to the viewer. It's all very artist-centered. If your not the artist, you won't 'get'it. Illustration on the other hand, rises to the challenge of communicating a specific thought or scene to the viewer.

Granted, I'm not sure myself what some of this stuff below is supposed to represent. But I know it represents something. It is not usually any one, single, concrete idea. Usually, I am trying to show a broad scope of ideas in one single drawing, but do it in such a way that they are layered and attached to one another. Ideally these would all come together in a way that each layer and idea can be appreciated, without detracting from the   the overall balance of the piece.
